Alastair Mhor, Champion of Clan Grant, c. 1714, Richard Waitt
Ceud míle fàilte gú an gleann seo! Is míse Séamus mhic Shéamhuís. Tha sgeulan anseo aír na daoíne Ceíltích - eachdraidh, òrain, ceolta, 's rud eíle cuídeachd.
One hundred thousand welcomes to this glen! I am James, son of James. There are stories here about the people of the Celts - history, songs, music, and other things also.
The greeting above is in Gaìdhlig {Scottish Gaelic}, one of the Celtic family of Indo-European languages. Celtic languages include: Gaeilge {Irish Gaelic}, Gaelg {Manx}, Cymraeg {Welsh}, Kernewek {Cornish}, and Kernevek (Breton}, as well as the now dead Gaulish languages and Celtiberian of Classical times. (Galicia is also considered a Celtic region by at least some of its people, though its language, Gallego is more akin to Portuguese, at least in its present form. However, at least some Galicians seem to consider themselves Celts, and have stated as much to me in no uncertain terms!)
The Hidden Glen is a place for those with interest in all things Celtic. I seek to present the most accurate and complete information possible, garnered in over a half-century of study. Knowing that one person is incapable of knowing everything (in my case far from it, and the more so as I get older!), I recognize my limitations and the potential for errata, no matter how careful the study and editing. So please excuse the errors, and feel free to help me correct them by sending comments.
Also, I would welcome skilled help in a number of technical areas, particularly PDF files, Photoshop, and other areas. At the moment, everything is funded from my own rather thread-bare pocket. I cannot pay, so any help rendered must be by volunteers. It is possible that may change someday, but for now, willing hearts and hands are wanted whose reward will be the advancement of knowledge in this interesting field.
To that end, I welcome all who would contribute to the effort - either with skills, articles, information, corrections, music, art, financially, or...? (All submissions must be already in digital format, and are subject to review, and must include permission to publish. Posting will be at my sole discretion.)
All are welcome here, and I hope that you will enjoy what is offered.
lé gach dúrachd máth,
Séamus
